Dils Book Review: Unhinged by Omarosa Manigault

Although Omarosa Manigualt's claims she felt uneasy about Donald Trump after she heard about the n word video her actions do not reflect that. Manigualt started keeping records since 2016 when Trump was running for president, her video of Michael Cohen boarding an airplane show how detail oriented she is from filming the precise moment he boards to making sure he aknowleges her before he takes his seat.

Cohen through out the video was uneasy his body language was uncomfortable he attempted to by pass by Manigualt but missed his chance when she told him he was being recorded. He waved at her in a relunctant way and went to his seat fast before she could say another word. This action by Cohen has lead me to wonder if perhaps he knew about Manigualt's recording ways and this is why he tried to avoid her because he wanted no part in it.

Besides Cohen, Manigualt also released  her conversation with Trump after being fired. In the book this dialogue sounds strange how could Trump not have known and why did Manigualt not raise questions about being firing? After being able to listen to the conversation it sounded staged there were no credible emotions coming from either one.

Trump responded with words like "Damn it" but it did not sound like he meant it the tone was really passive and he sounded like he wanted to end this conversation but show he at least pretended to sympathize. While Manigualt's "Oh no" was not what I would have expected from someone who challenged officials about her dismissal by saying she could prove her innocence through her records.

Why did she not bring this up to Trump and explain she had records to show she had not violated her car privilege but officials had not allowed her to show them nor had they shown her how she had violated that privilege. Manigualt's approach was strange and did not help at all clear her innocence or covey she would miss her job at the White House. Her tone sounded like she was over it and this conversation was only happening so she could record Trump's reaction.

There was also a disturbing claim made by Manigualt in Unhinged the staff at the White House had to sign NDA's. If this claim is true it shows Trump has no confidence in the people he hires and in order to insure he has their loyalty and discretion he has to resort to NDA's where the fear of getting sued will keep them quiet. Manigult though did not sign an NDA she makes no mention if she was the only staff member or if there were others like her however she was approached twice about it after being fired.

The first attempt was made when she went to pick up her belongings in the White House while the second attempt was made when Trump's in-law offered her a job in the campaign.

Manigualt recorded the second attempt and it was shocking to listen how Lara Trump sounded casual like it was not a big deal the money to pay her would come from small donors. The only time her voice sounded concerned was when she talked about the New York Times article that raised the question if Manigualt would talk about her experience in the White House and when she told Manigualt if she accepted the job she could not talk bad about Donald Trump.

This felt like the scene from Oz where Dorothy stumbles upon the Wizard's secret because you begin to realize that there may be more to Trump's campaign. If Manigualt was asked to get hired in this NDA/hush money deal what about other speakers that talk in Trump's campaigns? Is it possible that there are speakers who were hired this way?

I would cautiously  recomnend this book although the title shows Manigualt and Trump it is not all about her time working in the Trump adminsitration. It starts off that way but then divulges into her childhood and how she worked her way up to that point. She also contradicts herself like how she trusted Trump yet kept records, her actions and words sometimes do not make her a very reliable narrator.
